A standalone horror novel that is full of suspense and kept me on my toes.
This book is about a man named Ted who lives in a dilapidated house at the end of Needless Street with his cat, Olivia, and sometimes his daughter, Lauren. Years before the book started a young girl was abducted from a beach not far from Ted’s home. Now Dee, the missing girl’s sister, is on a mission to find out what happened to her sister all those years ago and she has Ted set in her sight as a suspect. But what she doesn’t know is that not everything is what it seems on Needless Street.
The characters were really well-developed, though I can’t say more than that without giving away anything from the book since the plot is very character driven. I had so much trouble putting this book down, to the point that I fell asleep reading one night and then when I woke up and realized I fell asleep, instead of putting my kindle away for the night, I sat up and finished the rest of the book. This was on weeknight around midnight after I had already taken sleeping meds, so if you know me then you know that’s a big deal (for those who don’t know I go to bed early on weeknights because of work the next morning and I have a rule against reading after I take my sleeping meds because normally I will not remember what I read the next day. This book was so good that I had to break that rule AND I managed to remember what happened at the end of the book the next day.)
With all of that being said I give this book 5 stars out of 5. I did not expect to like this book as much as I did going in and was skeptical but I was extremely surprised to find out exactly how much I liked it. I have been telling everyone that I know to read this book so that I can have someone to talk about it with. It is the perfect book for fans of suspense, though readers should check out the trigger warnings before diving in because the book did deal with some heavy topics.
